Let them Eat {Cake}?

{via Bon Appetit}

A new trend in the wedding world is to not follow the trends. Couples are infusing their day with unexpected details and breaking from the wedding standards and predictable norms. One such area brides and grooms are experimenting with is desserts. Cake is now out the window as well as the ever-popular but now passé cupcakes, and in its place are donuts, pies, smore’s and cake pops.

I have shared my affinity for the aforementioned dessert options in the past, but Bon Appetit magazine shares a new crop of alternative desserts. Who wouldn’t want to end the night with a perfectly crisp waffle, garnished with all the toppings you could dream of? How about an ice cream cookie sandwich station, with a variety of cookies and ice cream flavors? Sounds enticing, doesn't it!

So I guess this non-trend is quickly becoming a trend. While I am certainly impressed and enjoy these creative dessert options, I will always be drawn to the classic. But who says you can't put your own twist on the classic – my new obsession is multiple single layer cakes. It makes for a beautiful display and offers your guests options, which is always appreciated.

{Law Firm} Cocktail Reception

On Monday night I coordinated a cocktail reception for a local law firm. They had partners in from New York and wanted to put together a nice evening for some of their clients. Casa Del Mar’s Palm Terrace overlooking Santa Monica beach and pier was a beautiful and perfect location for such a reception. Guests were treated to cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and music by a Latin Jazz trio. A thank-you gift of delicious chocolate chip cookies were the perfect ending to a lovely evening.

{Pretty Party}

{A wine country inspired wedding in San Francisco via Snippet & Ink}

This has been a particularly short week, with the Labor Day holiday last weekend and now a little getaway starting today. The husband and I are heading up north for some wine tasting, good eating and relaxation. I have only been to the wine country for a quick trip while on the hunt for a wedding venue (we literally looked up and down the Pacific Coast until we landed up about 5 miles away from home – but that is a story for another day). Anyways, with not much time to enjoy what the area has to offer on my previous trip, I am very excited to indulge in it all.

I just love the beauty of the wine country and find so much inspiration in it. The beauty and romance is not limited however, to vineyards and wineries. You can create your own wine country soiree by using neutral colors, natural tones, farm fresh foods and of course good wine. I will be sure to share any and all inspiring finds from this weekend’s adventures next week. Wishing you an equally deliciously and indulgent weekend as I know I will have one!
